Hot Topics in Steel Construction (1 LU)

August 15, 2019 | 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm (Lunch begins at 11:30 am)

Center for Architecture & Design | 14 E. Peace Street | Raleigh

AIA Members/AIA Triangle Partners (Sponsors): $0 | Non Members: $30

Architects want to know what new innovations and techniques exist in the structural steel industry and how they can be applied to express their designs, overcome client serviceability and safety concerns while optimizing budget and schedule. Participants in this program will learn about sustainable and efficient framing systems, methods and practices which make steel the material of choice for any project, no matter the size, shape or end use.

1.  Participants will evaluate the steel supply chain and trends in the marketplace as a result of ongoing tariffs and trade cases.

2.  Participants will describe how to identify and specify architecturally exposed structural steel (AESS) in contract documents using the category method.

3.  Participants will discuss how prefabricated, modular and SpeedCore systems can lower costs, improve safety and reduce schedule

4.  Participants will explore structural concepts that maximize space, provide long clear spans and thin floor options with structural steel systems.
