PROGRAM:

Using best practices, the participant will learn the concept of hollow clay masonry units and the design of structures, the moisture and thermal analysis concepts of brick masonry walls and the impact on the building’s energy requirements. The participant will become knowledgeable about the environmentally friendly practices in the manufacturing process of hollow clay masonry units and the detailing of hollow clay masonry to construct long-lasting flexible and environmentally friendly building.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Participants will support and understand the concept of hollow clay masonry units (HCMUs) in the design of structures.
  2. Participants will explore the environmentally friendly manufacturing process of HCMUs.
  3. Participants will interpret the impact of HCMUs on a building's thermal analysis and energy requirements.
  4. Participants will analyze the moisture protection concepts of HCMSs in a building's envelope.

Chris Alan Lindsay, AIA

Chris Alan Lindsay, AIA is the southeast territory manager for brick manufacturers Interstate Brick and H.C. Muddox covering the states of AL, DC, GA, FL, KY, MD, NC, SC, TN & VA. Mr. Lindsay holds two architectural degrees from Georgia’s Southern Polytechnic State University and is a registered architect in the states of Georgia and Maryland. Mr. Lindsay has fifteen years of brick industry experience from both a manufacturing and distribution perspective having worked in the Atlanta, GA and Washington, DC markets.
