Humans have experienced the effects of quality lighting since the dawn of time. Now, we not only use this light to allow for visual acuity, but also to create meaningful environments. Join us as we discuss the concepts of effective lighting design and how we can use this to enhance our architectural applications. In response to current energy concerns, we must also consider the environmental integrity of our designs. Changing energy codes are not news to anyone in the architectural design industry. We often find ourselves framing these codes as design constraints. Allow us to reframe new design requirements as an opportunity to use creative design techniques and contribute to positive energy outcomes. As leaders in the built environment, we are also leaders in the conservation of our planet.

  1. Participants will understand Intuitive Lighting and how these concepts set the foundation for modern lighting design
  2. Participants will discuss the roots of architectural lighting design and various techniques can use to create lasting impressions
  3. Participants will consider changing Energy Codes and creative ways we can design to meet these requirements without sacrificing the design integrity
  4. Participants will investigate lighting in relation to the Integrated Design Process and how we can use this method to ensure successful lighting designs and energy savings

Her love for math and design marry beautifully in the lighting word. She is a member of AIA, USGBC, IIDA and IES. Betsy graduated from Meredith College with a B.S. in Interior Design.
