Program Description:

In this presentation we will discuss the formation of natural stone and compare that with the natural process technology of manufacturing Calcium Silicate Stone Units. Architectural detailing for stone masonry veneers promoting moisture management principals and considerations for control of movement in masonry walls is covered. A variety of design styles incorporating stone masonry materials are  highlighted. Introduction to thin stone tile and rainscreen systems.

Learning Objectives:

1  Participants will examine the mechanism of quarried and Calcium Silicate stone formation

2. Participants will identify Calcium Silicate Stone composition and properties influences on design decisions

3. Participants will appreciate the effects of different masonry materials on movement joints and other design requirements and utilize proper detailing techniques for moisture management in masonry veneer wall systems

4.  Participants will identify the structural use of special details  such as corbelling and curved walls.

Presented by:

Michael Beal, Regional Architectural Sales Manager, Arriscraft

Michael Beal has a Bachelor of Commerce in Industry and Finance from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. He joined Arriscraft International in 1985 working for the company on a part-time basis. Upon completion of his University degree, Michael took a residential sales position in Canada for 6 years.  The company moved Michael to Denver, Colorado in 1999 where he spent the next 6 years as the Architectural Territory manager developing new markets for Arriscraft Stone products from Texas to Seattle, Washington.  During this period Michael worked closely with Architects and Designers on specifications for natural quarried stone and manufactured stone products. 

 

Michael has been involved in commercial product development, research and marketing within the company for the past 20 years.  Throughout his 30 year tenure at Arriscraft International Michael has taken a variety of masonry training courses and is a certified Green Brick Specialist through BIA. 

 

The company moved Michael to Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 2005 where he has assumed the role as the Regional Architectural Sales Manager for all East Coast operations.  Working throughout North America in multiple markets has given Michael the ability to work a diverse array of projects with a variety of Architects, General Contractors, Owners/Clients and Masonry Contractors.  It is through his dealings and travelling that Michael Beal is able to bring a unique design perspective to utilizing stone as an economical cladding material in various forms.
