Better Data, Better Value, Better Results in Geotechnical Engineering

April 10, 2018 | 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

ECS Southeast, LLP | 9001 Glenwood Avenue | Raleigh, NC 27617

AIA Members: $0 | Non-Members: $30

Presented by:

Tom Schipporeit, PE Principal Engineer

Mr. Schipporeit is a Principal Engineer for ECS with more than 29 years of experience. He has experience managing and executing a wide variety of subsurface exploration programs. These projects involved both in-situ and laboratory testing of soil and rock for the design and construction of new facilities and additions to existing structures. He has performed analyses for deep and shallow foundations (settlements and bearing capacity), pavements (section thicknesses), retaining wall design (lateral pressures), slope stability, and site seismic classification.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will understand the reasons for variability in geotechnical reports, even for the same site and project
  • Participants will learn about alternative geotechnical exploration techniques, such as pressure meter testing and seismic refraction.
  • Participants will evaluate when the cost of obtaining better geotechnical data provides better value to clients and their projects
